How to Stop People Dying in the English Channel

Alistair McConnachie notes that 281 people have been killed trying to cross the English Channel since 2018 but those who want to keep this route open don't want to talk about them! But there's an easy way to stop people dying and here's how.
Pic: A Force For Good launched our book "Protect our Country: Policies to Stop Mass Immigration" on the beach of Dover on 19-7-25, during the "Great British National Protest" held on that day.
We've heard pro-asylum activists saying things to the effect that if you want to Stop the Boats then you are OK with people being killed.
They'll say that people will drown if you try to physically stop the boats. They are referring to dinghies being forced to stop and people getting into difficulty and drowning. A guest on GB News (14-9-26) tried to make this point, albeit in a very garbled manner. (1)
This is the point that every pro-asylum activist will eventually end up on.
They will argue that there is no doing what needs to be done to Stop the Boats without risking the potential death (through drowning) of many of the Channel Crossers – and that you're somehow OK with this!
It is a strong point, which hitherto has confounded many politicians who have tried to deal with this issue. This is because it is a fact that an unfortunate death, or deaths, is always a possibility in any kind of physical intervention at sea.
Yet it has a glaring inconsistency. It ignores the fact that people are being killed trying to cross the Channel, right now! This is happening more than people know. Interesting, this fact is not mentioned by those who tell us to continue to accept endless Channel Crossers forevermore.
For example, on Monday 26th September 2026, a ten-year-old child and 2 women were crushed to death in a dinghy attempting to cross the English Channel.
They died because the British Government is permitting this route to continue to exist, and countless politicians are arguing for it to remain open!
Before we look at how to close down this route in order that nobody dies crossing the Channel in the first place, let us first examine the figures.
HOW MANY PEOPLE are DYING TRYING to CROSS the CHANNEL?
According to The Migration Observatory:
In 2025, there were 24 confirmed deaths related to Channel crossings, down from 73 the year before. A total of 162 people died in the Channel between 2018 and 2025. This rises to 257 when considering other deaths related to migration in the area, such as accidents involving people who try to board lorries bound for the UK. These figures may understate the true toll, as not all incidents are reported. (2)
Figure 8 on its page, breaks down the 162 as follows:
2025 – 24
2024 – 73
2023 – 14
2022 – 5
2021 – 34
2020 – 7
2019 – 5
HOW MANY PEOPLE have DIED TRYING to CROSS the CHANNEL in 2026, so far?
The Guardian (28-9-26) in its report on the crushing incident says:
At least 17 people, including women and children, have died in the Channel this year while attempting to reach the UK. Many have drowned, while others have died in incidents involving overcrowded boats. (3)
Note the "at least"! Nobody seems quite sure!
It also says:
It comes as more than 80 people, including a baby, are feared to have died while attempting to reach Spain's Canary Islands by sea in August.
And:
At least 29 people lost their lives last year trying to cross the Channel, according to an Agence France-Presse tally based on official French and British sources.
This differs from The Migration Observatory figure of "24", and so it may include people having accidents with lorries.
The Daily Telegraph (28-9-26) has a different figure and says "at least 19" have been killed so far this year. (4)
The Daily Mail, referring to the crushing incident, says "at least 24 people" have died this year. (5)
If we add this "24" to the "257" total from The Migration Observatory, we get 281 people who have died trying to cross the Channel from 2018 to date, who would not have died if this route had been closed to them.
The point is that a lot of people are being killed making this crossing – people who would not be getting killed if they were not trying to make this crossing.
These deaths are largely being ignored by those who are keen to keep this route open. It seems they don't want to talk about them.
HOW TO AVOID PEOPLE being KILLED TRYING to CROSS the CHANNEL
Simple! Ensure they don't make the journey in the first place.
This danger can be easily avoided by our Policy, which we have elaborated at some length in "Protect our Country: Policies to Stop Mass Immigration".
That is:
1. We LEAVE the UN Refugee Convention. This is the Convention which makes lawful any kind of entry – which would normally be considered illegal – providing it is being done to "claim asylum".
At present, leaving the UN Refugee Convention is – for most politicians in the main parties – absolutely unthinkable. This is because they are wedded to the post-WW2 consensus which established the modern world order, along with its many self-destructive concepts which weaken Nation States (intentionally or unintentionally), such as the 1951 UN Refugee Convention itself.
Anyway, it has to go. Once we've left…
2. We declare Channel Crossing to be illegal, and immediately punishable with prison.
There may not be enough room in the prisons available, so we would need to build Nightingale Detention Centres. People would be able to buy their way out of them, providing they agreed to get on a one-way flight back to their own country, never to return.
Obviously this policy needs a complete psychological and physical rejection of the notion that any of these people – coming from France – are "persecuted and vulnerable". That notion, heavily pushed by virtually the entire mainstream political class, must be completed wiped away.
Here's the good news.
This would ensure that the Channel traffic would dry up very quickly!
Most people claiming to be "persecuted" would find that they are not so "persecuted" after all. This would mean that we would not need to imprison very many or for very long.
Furthermore, it would save lives at sea.
This is because, as above, people are being killed in the English Channel as it is! They are also drowning in the Mediterranean and Atlantic, as they attempt to get to the European continent, often in order to get to Britain.
You can read more about how this Policy would work, in our book "Protect our Country: Policies to Stop Mass Immigration" which we launched on the beach of Dover on 19-7-25. Or search Amazon for "Protect our Country". Alistair McConnachie pictured.
